Leadership Forum: Prospects
for Productivity Panel
Wednesday, 2:00
– 5:00 p.m., 2nd Floor - Riverchase A
Track: Management
As the external pressures in transportation build (competition
from rail, reduction of available drivers, possible limitations on
payload size due to infrastructure, etc.) trucking companies must
think “out of the box” to come up with new and creative ways to be
more productive.
This year’s CCJ Leadership
Forum at the McLeod Software’s Users Conference will discuss current
and potential solutions to rapidly approaching productivity
challenges, including:
- Greater
cooperation among carriers and shippers, such as more
drop-and-hook operations and flexible pick-up and delivery
schedules
- Emerging
and potential operational models for truckload carriers, including
driver relays, connecting hubs and slip-seating
- Effective
intermodal relationships
- Savvy
use of information technology to maximize utilization and
equipment uptime
- Alliances
among carriers to improve mutual efficiency in freight movements
- And
more
CCJ Editorial
Director
Avery Vise
and a panel of trucking executives will lead an interactive discussion
on how truckload carriers can continue to move
America
– and do so profitably – in the coming decade.

Tax Audit Risks – Dealing with controversial FIN 48 Requirements
Thursday, 11:00
a.m., 1st Floor –
Yorkshire
Track: Accounting
Will you give the IRS a roadmap for your next audit?
For 2007 year-ends, private companies must consider compliance
with Financial Interpretation Number (FIN) 48 of the Financial
Accounting Standards Board (FASB), which requires that you analyze
your “uncertain tax positions” and disclose them in your audited
financial statements. Some
say this is tantamount to giving the IRS an “audit roadmap” by
showing where you have a weak hand in tax matters.
Come hear how to prepare for implementation of this most
controversial new rule from the FASB.

What
To Do About Your “Problem" Employee
Thursday, 11:00
a.m., 1st Floor - Wyndsor II
Track: Management
Does your company struggle with that one “problem”
employee? You know the type, he or she may resist management at every
turn, disturb fellow employees, and threaten to sue at the drop of a
hat, or simply show hostility to everyone around them. Every trucking
company has at least one and not every "problem" employee is
the same. Labor & Employment Attorney Andy Scott of Fisher &
Phillips, LLP focuses much of his practice on representing management
for trucking companies in labor issues. He will show trucking company
managers how to spot "problem" employees before they're
hired, how to handle them once they're on the job, and what to do if
the "problem" gets to be too much to handle. Andy will
describe strategies for managing these challenges and will
provide an update on laws that affect trucking management.

Measuring
Performance Using A Driver Scorecard
Thursday, 4:30 p.m.,
1st Floor – Yorkshire
Track: Management
Back by popular demand, “Measuring Performance Using A Driver
Scorecard” illustrates not only WHY measuring your drivers
performance can be of value, but HOW you can implement it in your own
organization using information that is readily available in your
LoadMaster® system. Other companies have already adopted a
similar process, and are using it to help set driver pay rates,
determine bonus payouts, assist with truck assignments, etc.
Floyd & Beasley Transfer internally developed their own driver
scorecard in 2005, and is letting drivers choose their pay rate, based
on their performance “scores.” Since Floyd & Beasley has
implemented their scorecard, they have seen dramatic improvements in
driver revenue production, fuel savings, and a greater focus on safety
by their drivers. Their program has been the subject of several
articles, and has been discussed on a nationwide radio talk program.

Accounts Receivable (A/R) is often times one of the largest

Having a sound risk-strategy to handle a catastrophic loss is

primary ways to protect your A/R: 1) Collection Companies, 2)
Factoring and 3) A/R Insurance or Trade Credit Insurance.
